Refugees in Nigeria: The stories of Boko Haram survivors

It was June 9, 2014, when large numbers of Boko Haram fighters entered the village of John Ali (45). John was making dough when he saw the terrorists entering his town. “They were dressed like soldiers of the Nigerian army. But they were not. The fighters started firing around and shot 34 people.”

John is one of the many IDP’s (internal displaced people) we met in northern Nigeria. In 2017 we visited refugee camps in and around Maiduguri. For ZOA, we wrote down the testimonies of Boko Haram survivors, we filmed the camps and reported about the life of survivors, ZOA’s aid, and the problems people were facing.

Read the stories of Boko Haram survivors on the website of ZOA. For more projects, head back to our portfolio.
